RRD’s innovative label support addresses inventory management issues for leading automotive retailer
CHALLENGE
A major automotive retailer and distributor faced a complex challenge in their distribution centers. They needed to quickly produce black-out labels for over 2,300 SKUs with new barcode information — while also covering outdated UPC codes.
This task required precise coordination across eight distribution centers, each requiring a different subset of the affected SKUs. The retailer sought a solution that could cover the old codes effectively — and streamline the distribution and application of new labels to ensure inventory accuracy.
SOLUTION
Leveraging years of previous collaboration across various platforms, the client entrusted RRD with this challenge. RRD’s labels experts first recommended an opaque cover-up material with permanent adhesive to ensure the outdated SKU and UPC information was completely hidden.
RRD’s Angola, IN facility – equipped with advanced imaging equipment – was ideal for producing correctly sized label sheets, each containing two dozen individual labels. This setup allowed for the efficient organization of multiple SKUs on a single sheet. It also enabled the RRD team to tailor to the quantity needed at each location. By producing these full sheets in SKU order, RRD provided each distribution center with a customized label kit, ensuring a streamlined and accurate update workflow.
