CHALLENGE

A leading manufacturer of antibacterial wipes experienced a sudden surge in demand due to the highly contagious novel coronavirus. With urgency at hand, this client requested that RRD produce as much folding carton packaging needed for the wipes as possible, as quickly as possible — about two times greater than their typical quantities.  

SOLUTION

RRD’s color, packaging, and supply chain experts worked hand-in-hand with the client’s engineers in product execution. We were able to keep pace with their supply chain and respond to their needs with deeply reduced lead times — which are typically four weeks — with paperboard availability and manufacturing agility.  

If needed, additional RRD manufacturing sites with redundant capabilities were available and would be considered to accommodate the need for increased capacity. Consistent, clear communication with the client’s team was key in responding to this critical surge in demand.

RESULTS

Capacity requirements were achieved twice over

Total product manufacturing met consumer demand

Subsequently, the manufacturer experienced no interruption in the packaging production for its other brands. RRD was also able to collaborate with the client's manufacturing site on forecasting as volumes have stabilized.
