CHALLENGE

A prominent luxury retailer of handbags, clothing, and accessories faced significant operational inefficiencies at their distribution center, which handles online order fulfillment. The core of the problem was the plastic totes used for e-commerce picking and packing luxury items:

• Each tote would have a new SKU label added every time it was reused, leading to layers of old labels accumulating on the totes.
• This accumulation caused a messy appearance and posed a risk of mis-scans during the packing process.
• Employees spent excessive time removing old labels, often using box-cutting knives, which raised safety concerns.
• The use of box-cutting knives occasionally damaged the totes.

SOLUTION

To address these challenges, RRD’s labels experts recommended deploying their proprietary CleanTac® adhesive technology. This solution involved thermal transfer printable labels with CleanTac adhesive, which securely affixed to the totes but could be easily removed without residue or damage. This ensured each tote had only the current label, enhancing scanning accuracy and maintaining a clean, professional appearance.
