RRD Packaging optimizes mail-back teeth-whitening kit launch with eye-catching, durable premium packaging solution 

CHALLENGE

A leading manufacturer of dental products began developing a premium at-home teeth-whitening kit branded by a leading retail pharmacy chain. Unlike generic teeth-whitening trays and molds sold over the counter, the company produced kits customized to the individual consumer. Users create an at-home impression of their teeth and ship the impression tray back to the company to create a customized mold. 

The company sought a packaging partner who could help ensure that the kits grabbed consumers’ attention on drugstore shelves. They also wanted the packaging to safely — and durably — hold the kit’s contents in place. 

SOLUTION

Because RRD was the company’s current, trusted packaging and labels partner, they again turned to RRD Packaging to help solve these challenges.  

To make the kits stand out on the shelf, RRD’s designers created a high-end, embossed paperboard sleeve with foil stamping — an eye-catching option that stood out on the shelf.

RRD also engineered a corrugated box to ensure rigidity, strength, and extra product protection. The team then deployed thorough stability testing to confirm the packaging was strong enough to withstand handling — or mishandling — during shipping. 

The packaging was designed to be easy for consumers to open and to ensure maximum structural integrity. Once open, the company wanted the interior to be aesthetically pleasing with a clear product layout. RRD successfully accomplished this goal, accounting for varying component sizes by creating an integrated tray where every item could be seen on the same visual plane. The result increased product visibility and contributed to ease of use. 

RESULTS

RRD’s packaging design, thorough testing, and production successfully accomplished the company’s goals. The foil-embossed sleeve makes the box pop on store shelves, highlighting that it’s a premium product. The end result is both strong and presents well to consumers. 

Since launching the teeth-whitening kit, the project has seen success, including:

  • Product integrity during shipping, with no reported issues of molds breaking 
  • Over 50,000 sleeves, boxes, and instruction guides produced and shipped since May 2023
